Course Description
AP Studio Art was a year-long art course for students interested in a rigorous and focused study in two-dimensional visual art. At the end of the year, students will submit 14 works of art for evaluation by the AP College Board for college credit. Each portfolio includes a concentration, an in-depth exploration of a particular topic of the student's choosing.
AP Studio Art students applied their knowledge gained from Introduction and Advanced courses to their work in order to demonstrate mastery of advanced level design skills and concepts. Critical analysis through group and individual critiques provided students with opportunities to learn to analyze their own work and their peers' work. As in any college level course, students were expected to spend a considerable amount of time outside of class in order to complete assignments, homework and sketchbook assignments. This was a full year course plus it required work throughout the summer prior to taking the course.
An art opening celebrating completion of the portfolio is typically held at the Charles B. Phillips Library in Newark. This year, due to restrictions on public gatherings, the art show will be held online.
Thank you for attending the 2020 AP Studio Virtual Art Exhibit, and your continued support of the fine arts at Newark Community High School!
