"My portfolio idea for the semester explored several essential questions related to fears and phobias. This is a personally interesting topic for me and I tried picking a few that connected in with my own life at times as well, for example, the fear of abandonment uses my story of imagining who my dad was. The puzzle pieces were piecing me together through time with what I know. Another piece involved ending a long term relationship.
Some works involved my interests in music and art. For one piece I chose clowns, inspired by a genre of horror core rap. For another, I incorporated street styles of art because of personal interest.
Throughout the year I introduced a lot of different things into my artwork, figures, faces, and lettering. I tried different styles as well to get the fears across in new ways. One night I had been sketching while anxious and that's how I got the scribble people I use now. I generally only use them when emotion is needed within the work. I also used new media such as chalk and ink. I think exploring styles and media really helped me grow immensely as an artist." - Trinity Bledsoe
