"Throughout my AP Art year, I created several works surrounding my essential question, "How have I and my relationships changed throughout my four years of high school?" For each one of my works I came up with a smaller more specific essential question to help guide my work along. One of my first works was depicting myself and others, from different classes, I had a relationship with. Then in one of my later artworks I created it showed me with one of the people from my previous work and a new person I had developed a relationship with. I also had created four art pieces inspired by bulletin boards and the themes we had at our school for prom/homecoming. On these boards is an overview of the works created in that year, highlights of my years and things and people I've grown to love.
My growth through my years is evident. Through the progress I’ve made with my art ability from the beginning of the year and how I’ve shown that within my works. I thought I especially made progress with my artistic ability. I did this through sketching and doing exercises like face studies. Through sketching I also found my art style, color palettes and mediums I love the most, which I found to be either colored pencil or graphite on colored paper. When drawing with colored pencil I found that relatively dulled down or more quiet colors with a nice pop of an intense color was my favorite look. It was a journey to try and figure out that these were my favorite mediums. I wanted to experiment and find new creative ways to mix art styles, colors, and mediums. Though my style is not the most experimental art style, the way I went about finding it and completing my works and still keeping my original essential question, to me, made for both nicely finished and very fulfilling works." -Sienna Skelton
