"My project’s essential question was how can I show the bad decisions teens make and their consequences? Through my works of art, I have answered this question and the ones following how can I show the two paths you can take as a teenager, how can I show the dangers of driving under the influence, how can I show the dangers of partying, etc. Each project represents bad decisions teens often make and/or are faced with throughout their young adult lives and the consequence it could have on them, both short term and long term. I decided to do this topic because through my own high school experience and the people around me I have seen how these choices can truly affect someone. I thought it was important and could create some cool concepts through this topic and the knowledge I had on top of the research I continued to do.
I think throughout my portfolio my techniques and drawings/paintings of figures, portraits, hands, etc. continue to get better. This is through my practices in my sketches and through working on my fifteen works of art. A lot of the challenge I had was finding a way to make the piece artistic and not too factual. Most of the time I found the only way I was able to strongly show the consequence was by stating facts, but I still wanted it to be artistic. I went back and redid almost all of my paintings/drawings to do either minor touch-ups or cleaning lines or adding more things to take up the empty space. I think as with most artists it takes a few redos and touch-ups for me to be happy with my work." - Miraya Smith
