"My work focuses on past events in American history and how those events effect American citizens and me personally in today’s America. My work prompts me to think about how past events in America’s history effect mine and my family’s everyday life as students and as members of the working-class.
Each one of my works depicts what I consider a major event in American history and what effects that event has had on present-day America. I initially wanted this body of work to reflect America’s past as a way to enlighten what has shaped the country, for better or for worse. Originally, each composition was meant to have the past and the present on a separate half to illustrate the change. As I progressed through each work, I experimented with layering and overlapping elements to make the works more appealing and interesting for the reader. I began to take bigger risks by adding more content to heighten the message of the works and explore events that are perhaps harder to swallow for readers." - Megan Christian
